THE MP for Rayleigh and Wickford took part in the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) ‘poppy ride’ at Westminster, as part of the charity’s commemoration of Remembrance.
The ride represents a notional journey from London to Brussels (and the battlefields of the First World War), and each MP is encouraged to cover as much distance as possible, within a five-minute period.
Mark Francois MP has taken part many times in this ride many times, but on this occasion, he managed to clock up 3.2km, which placed him around 13th on the ‘leader board’ of over 50 MPs.
He said: “The Royal British Legion is a wonderful charity, which does a great deal of work to support both serving Armed Force personnel and Veterans.
As someone who has been a long-time supporter of their vital work, I was very happy to participate in their ‘poppy ride’ 2023, and I was pleasantly surprised to manage over 3km in the allocated 5 minute.!”
“I was also very pleased to see that the Remembrance Sunday services in my constituency
were very well attended this year, despite the poor weather, as I deeply believe that it is
important to remember the sacrifice of those who gave their lives, so that we can remain a
free country. Lest we forget.”
