Dixon to close for repairs – A THEATRE studio in Westcliff will close for an extended period of time whilst major repair work is underway.

The Dixon Studio inside the Palace Theatre on London Road will close for an extended period of time while major repair work is undertaken.

The Dixon Studio inside the 112-year-old theatre was closed for temporary repairs in September following the discovery of RAAC.

Details in Southend Council’s budget have revealed further works are needed, but council leader Tony Cox has been unable to confirm, until the next financial year, when the works might commence.

The news has devastated local amateur dramatic societies, such as the East Essex Player, who regularly use the venue a number of times a year to stage their productions.

Coun Cox said: “I don’t know how long it will be closed, as it is in the next financial year.

“It was reported to allow the Christmas shows, but is to be closed again for longer lasting repairs.”

 

Dog stuck in Chalkwell mud – LIFEBOAT crews launched a rescue mission after a dog was “in distress” in the rising tide at Chalkwell Beach.

RNLI volunteers launched the Hovercraft lifeboat to a dog out on the mud in a location initially reported as near Chalkwell station after 2 pm on Friday, February 9.

When the hovercraft arrived, the dog and owner were located on the beach.

 

Mindful Singing in Leigh – A LEIGH church space is running a mindful singing course.

The 8-week course will from on Wednesdays 1pm to 3pm, from May 1st to June 19th.

The group has a maximum 12 singers, for beginners to intermediate level.

The plans, for 26 Vardon Drive, involve erecting single storey side/rear extension with a roof lantern bay windows to front and side (part-retrospective).

 

Extension – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to erect a single storey rear extension with roof lantern and a first-floor rear extension with juliette balcony, to extend beyond the existing rear dormer at 73 Eastwood Road, Leigh.

 

Extension – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted for a single storey rear extension to
46 Leighwood Avenue Leigh.

 

Loft – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to create habitable accommodation

in the loftspace of a Leigh home.

Applicants applied with to install dormer to the front of 34 Merryfield Approach.

 

Refusal – PLANS to create habitable accommodation in the loft space of a Leigh home have bene refused.

The plans, for 133 BLENHEIM CHASE, involved a hipped to gable roof extension and dormer to front and the rear with a juliette balcony to the rear.

 

Garage – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to convert a garage into habitable accommodation in Westcliff.

The plans, for 39 St James Gardens involve the erection of a single storey side/rear extension with roof lanterns, and a first-floor side extension.

 

Loft – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to create habitable accommodation in the loft space of a Westcliff home.

The plans, for involve raising the ridge height to form a new first floor at 30 Clatterfield Gardens.

 

Loft – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to create habitable accommodation in the loft space of a Westcliff home.

The plans, for15 Shanklin Drive, involve installing front and rear dormers and erecting a single storey rear extension.

 

The Leas Works – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted for works at a set of flats near Wrestcliff Seafront.

The plans, for 10 Grosvenor Court The Leas will see the dismantling and removal of the existing first and second floor concrete balconies to flats 4 and 10 on the south/east corner of building, and their replacement with a new supporting structure and metal balconies including re-use of existing metal ornate columns and balustrade.

 

Garage – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted to convert a garage into habitable accommodation in Westcliff. The plans, for 38 CHALKWELL AVENUE involve the erection of a part single two-storey rear extension and two storey front extension with a new porch.

 

Bedrooms – CONDITIONAL permission has been granted for an extension at a Westcliff home to make additional bedrooms.

Amended plans for the proposal will see the single storey extensions to the sides of Britannia Lodge at 1 Ailsa Road will provide additional bedrooms and reception area
