Statue Site Approved - PERMISSION has been granted by Southend City Council for the installation of a statue in memory of Sir David Amess.

PERMISSION has been granted by Southend City Council for the installation of a statue in memory of Sir David Amess.

The memorial statue created by Andrew Lilley will be placed looking out to sea on land opposite Crowstone Avenue on Chalkwell Esplanade, Westcliff.

A planning offer’s report states: “The sculpture would be sited centrally, on the site on a circular concrete base with a 20mm thick steel band, which is cut into the sloping site. It is a bronze, life-sized statue sited on a bronze plinth.

“The statue would be a maximum of some 2.1m in height above ground level and would be some 0.5m wide and some 0.5m deep.

“The statue has been created by Andrew Lilley to assist in the commemoration of Sir David Amess MP and depicts Sir David Amess holding sheets of paper clearly marked ‘Southend for City Status.’”
