The Chalkwell Beach Park Run, typically a hub of activity on Saturday mornings, bore witness to an unprecedented turnout as 755 individuals congregated to honour the memory of Jane Hopkins, whose indelible mark on Havens Hospices spanned over a decade.

On the morning of Easter Saturday, the sea of runners gathered to embark on the 5k journey in Mrs Hopkins’ memory.

Mrs Hopkins played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Chalkwell Beach Park Run, and served as a devoted community engagement manager at Havens Hospice.

Prior to the commencement of the event, Mrs Hopkins’ husband, Mike Hopkins, delivered a poignant speech, and speaking after the event, he added: “Thank you to the core team and volunteers for having to put up with extra work and Havens hospices for having a stall.

“Jane was a special soul who will be greatly missed by many but knowing she helped so many others, helps.”

Throughout the event, Havens Hospices maintained a stall which raised £800 on the day, symbolising Ms Hopkins’ close connection to the organisation.

Amy Dearing, director of fundraising and marketing, said: “It was heartening to see so many people come together at Park run.

“It was the perfect way to honour Jane and her legacy to the community and to Havens Hospices.”
