A LEIGH school has been given the green light to start building a brand-new building designed specifically for children with autism.
Blenheim Primary and Nursery, on School Way, submitted a planning application for the new ‘Autism Resource Base (ARB)’ towards the end of June 2022 and have recently been given the go-ahead by council officers.
The new building will include a foyer welcome area, a learning space, two breakout rooms, an office space and two toilets.
There will also be some changes to the tarmac paths and gates in the nearby vicinity of the structure.
According to the application document submitted to Southend Council, the proposed Autism Resource Base will meet the requirements of students with “additional educational needs and support”.
It adds that pupils will “divide their time between the new unit and the main school.”
