Police officers, an air ambulance, as well as the fire service, and emergency services, attended the scene of a crash on the A13 on Thursday, May 2, involving a red BMW and red Volkswagen.
The incident, which happened near a BP garage in London Road, saw Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service free one person who was trapped in a car.
A spokesperson from the fire service stated: “On arrival, crews reported three vehicles had collided and one person was trapped in their car.
“Firefighters worked to rescue the casualty and they were left in the care of the ambulance service.”
A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed five ambulance service vehicles and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended the crash.
“We transported a woman and baby to the Royal London Hospital for treatment,” they said.
Their injuries had initially been described as “potentially life-threatening” but are now being described as “serious”.
The two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Essex Police has confirmed they have both been released on bail while detectives continue their inquiries.
The force is now looking help with their investigation into the collision, asking anyone who saw what happened or captured it on a dashcam to contact them.
A spokesperson said: “Officers believe there were cars in the area at the time and that there may have been some drivers who witnessed the collision or captured the collision on dashcam,” a spokesman for the force said.
“We’d ask those drivers to see if they have captured anything that could assist with our investigation.
“If you have any information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.”
