SOUTHEND West MP Anna Firth visited members of Expressions Theatre Arts School  in Leigh and met some of the dancers who are entering the Dance World Cup in Prague in June.
Out of 5000 entries, twelve dancers from Expressions have been picked to compete at the Dance World Cup in Prague from June 27 – July 6.
The 12 Expressions students successfully auditioned for team England and are preparing to head off to Prague in June.
Dancers are aged between 11-17 and will compete in ballet, national, contemporary, character and tap.
It will cost the dancers around £1000 each with travel, accommodation, team kit and rehearsals.
Expressions are doing everything they can to help with the cost including holding a cake sale, which Ms Firth was pleased to support.
The school has so far raised £4,500, which includes a considerable donation from Barrons accountants in Leigh, which has gone towards costs of the kit.
The dancers’ families will go to support them as well, so this will incur additional costs. The school wants to raise £6,000 and the link for donations will be live for the next few weeks, visit: Let’s get to the dance world cup
Ms Firth said: “ I was so pleased to visit the wonderful Expressions Theatre Arts School in Leigh and see how the dancers are preparing to represent England at the upcoming Dance World Cup in Prague.
“The students are clearly working really hard to be ready to represent their country and we should all support them. They’ve done incredibly well to get through to the finals and I’m sure their commitment and talent will get them through.
“Good luck to you all!”
Emma Wise, Principal at Expressions added: “We are going to the Dance World Cup and we’re representing England.
“Out of over five thousand entries, twelve of our girls were selected, which is absolutely the most wonderful, fantastic achievement and we’re so thrilled that this little pocket of the county, can represent the country competing in dance.”
