LEIGH Rotary Club held their 20th annual walk along Southend’s iconic pier.

For two decades, the Rotary Club of Leigh has fundraised for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Southend Hospital’s Spotlight Appeal.

The Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal aims to raise £600,000 to fund an ultra-precise, state of the art radiotherapy positioning devices, which will provide safer, less invasive and more precise cancer treatment for residents of Southend and beyond.

In attendance on the walk was Anna Firth, MP for Southend West, with David Hurst, High Sheriff of Essex, and The Mayor of Southend Coun Ron Woodley.

Ms Firth said: “I was delighted to support the 20th Leigh Rotary International Pier Walk along Southend Pier.

“We were blessed with a beautiful day and it was such a lovely way to once again support the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal.

“Please do consider making a donation!”

A spokesperson for Leigh Rotary said: “The lovely sunny weather brought between 700 and 800 walkers.

“We have hopefully raised well over £4000 for Spotlight and other charities.

“Our thanks to our sponsors Adventure Island, Hazcomp Ltd, Hatton Jewellery, Ec2i, Sorrells, Belfairs Pharmacy and of course Southend City Council.”
