A DEVOTED Leigh father and husband is half way through a fundraising pilgrimage in memory of his wife.

Karl Lansley committed to the 1,000-mile walking challenge in memory of his late wife Carli Lansley.

The walk will be fundraising for The Carli Lansley Foundation, whose motto is “keeping young hearts healthy.”

The foundation was started by Mr Lansley and his children Jess and Ethan, in memory of Carli Lansley, their beloved wife and mother, who died aged 36 in her sleep from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

The charity now hosts heart screening days across South Essex as well as CPR and defibrillator training sessions.

Mr Lansley’s aim is for the pilgrimage to raise £52,00 to cover a year’s worth of screenings.

The pilgrim’s process which is taking him from the South East of England, and passing through Essex, London, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk

Mr Lansley explained: “The walk will comprise of 60 “walking” days and 15 “rest” days over a 75-day period – ending July 24

“As well as raising money and awareness for our charity, I will also be raising awareness of a national charity – Cardiac Risk In The Young – who administer all the ECG screening days our charity fund.”

He described the particularly poignant aspect of the walk: “And on a personal aspect of the walk, I will be taking Carli’s ashes with me and spreading them at poignant, beautiful locations I pass through.”

Progressing through Ashford and Canterbury on day 10, Mr Lansley added: “As always, the offer is for anyone to join me on this walk at any stage they like and for as long (or as little) as they choose.”
