New Landlord Sought - AN EASTWOOD pub is set to re-open, as the brewery behind the business begins its search for a new landlord.

AN EASTWOOD pub is set to re-open, as the brewery behind the business begins its search for a new landlord.

The closure in April of The Brookside Tavern on Rayleigh Road followed the non-renewal of long-time landlady Carol Curry’s lease after 28 years of dedicated service.

Since this time, the closure has prompted fears from residents that the pub might deteriorate into an unused site.

However, the community can look forward to the pub’s revival as Stonegate, the brewery behind the pub, has officially put the establishment on the market in the search for a “community driven individual” to be the new leaseholder.

They added that the applicants could be either “a new starter or experienced publican”.

The move is a hopeful sign for both the community and the future of The Brookside Tavern, one that is welcomed by Eastwood Park Lib Dem councillor Rob McMullan.

He called the news “good,” in the face of the trend for pubs across the country to close.

He reportedly said: “It is good to see an open pub on that bustling terrace. You see too many closed, boarded-up pubs and it isn’t good for the area.”

He added: “It has been popular for a long time and I am pleased that the brewery is looking to keep it open really.

“It is a good friendly neighbourhood pub, a place to just go for a quick pint,” he added.

Stonegate’s regional spokesman stated that the pub is a “rare opportunity with potential.”

They added: “The pub has the opportunity to become one of the best community pubs in the town, it just needs a visionary to drive it.

“The business will flourish under the lead of an entrepreneurial spirit who understands Eastwood and the wider area.”

Interested parties are invited to apply, with a guide rent set at £384 per week.
