TWO resignations have occurred in Leigh Town Council, with one by-election already having been set.
Leigh residents are to take to the polls on August 15 to decide who will be a new councillor for Elms Ward, following the resignation of Tory Councillor Mark Flewitt.
Current candidates for the Parish election ward set are to be announced this week, after the vacancy arose.
following the announcement of this by-election, it was revealed that another vacancy arose within the same ward, with a second resignation, this time from Tory councillor Dr Anne Robinson.
Peter Wexham, who previously was a Lib Dem city councillor for Leigh, said: “Southend Council have confirmed with me that a second by-election will occur following Dr Anne Robinson’s resignation, providing it is triggered by the ten signatures required.”
Mr Wexham added: “This will give will give anyone who was not elected first time around a second chance.”
Election day for the ward vacancy left by Mr Flewitt will be held on Thursday August 15.
