A HADLEIGH women’s cricket group reached the Essex Softball Series County Finals Day this August.

The Hadleigh & Thundersley Ladies’ cricket team topped the Group F round robin league played across four evenings, progressing to Finals Day on August 11.

Putting on 100 runs against High Roding in their first match, they then beat Orsett & Thurrock Ladies to seed themselves in the 1st to 3rd place Finals Group.

During the match at the Cloud FM Essex County Ground, the team then beat Bromley Bees in a close match, before narrowly being beaten by Chappel Challengers.

Hadleigh were crowned County Runners Up, coming only 10 runs short of the overall title.

Alastair Graham, Women’s Cricket Coach and Club Secretary, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our ladies who had the courage to try a new sport and have supported each other to achieve something truly special.

“They are an inspiration to everyone, and are great role models for our U11 and U13 Girls which we hope to grow further this coming year.”

Marking their second ever season as a team, this achievement puts them in the top ten teams in Essex.

Vicky Hunt, who captained Hadleigh Ladies on County Finals Day, commented: “It’s been amazing how quickly we have grown. We’ve come so far. It’s done wonders for the club and they are so supportive and encouraging of what the ladies are doing. We were over the moon to bring silverware back to the club.”

Chairman Kevan Jenkinson, added: “I’m delighted for our ladies, which has been a highlight of our club’s season along with the completion of our investment projects, which will benefit our ladies, youth and men’s cricket for decades to come. We always welcome new players of all ages and abilities, both men and women.”

Women’s Soft Ball Cricket is a short format of cricket, using a soft cricket ball and non-wooden bats.
