A LEIGH fishmongers is featuring in a new campaign to promote its award-winning recipes and famous produce to the nation.

Based in Leigh Old Town, Osborne’s café and fishmongers is one of the oldest family on fisheries in the country.

Now, it has partnered with the Marine Stewardship Council to promote the sustainable benefits of cockles.

Osborne’s have the capacity to catch a quota of 12 tonnes a day, twice a week, despite operating within a limited season following size restrictions.

According to the marine stewardship Council, it’s these environmental protections that make cockle fishing such a sustainable practice.

“Having the MSc certificates and means that we have a stamp of sustainability. It means you know where everything comes from, you know the fishery works and that there will be cockles there next year and the year after that,” explained Graham Osborne.
