Leigh On Sea News: Investment In Playgrounds – TWO Rochford play areas are set to be revamped following an investment boost.

 “Deteriorated” play areas at Clements Hall and Ashingdon Recreation Ground are set to benefit from a £233,000 boost, as Rochford District Council announce plans to improve parks across the district.

 Over the next five years, they plan to invest £1.26million in a wider project to replace equipment and improve facilities.

 According to a council report, the toddler play areas at Ashingdon Playing Fields are beyond economical repair, with the teen area “heavily vandalised”.

 Play equipment at Clements Hall was also reported as being at the “end of its life expectancy”.

 An investment in these areas will, the report describes, “ensure the community asset is modernised and fit for purpose for the next ten to 20 years”.

 The report adds: “Timely investments will help prevent closures and ensure that these play spaces continue to serve as valuable community resources for years to come.”

 James Newport, leader of Rochford Council, said: “We are picking up on 20 years of underinvestment in our play areas.

 “It is really important for people to be able to access these play areas and the outdoors for social interaction with other children.

“Play areas are also free to use so it will be great to have them improve for all families in the area.”
