Leigh Stabbing Charges

THREE people have been charged in connection with a stabbing that took place in Leigh. 

 A man in his 20s was found by police with stab wounds in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood at 4.30pm on Saturday, October 5. 

 He was rushed to hospital for treatment, but his injuries were luckily not life-threatening. 

 It was reported that the victim had been seen being chased by a group of people who had got out of two vehicles, one of which was described as a red 4×4. 

 Two arrests followed, with a third and fourth the following day after the incident.

 Josh Parsons, 24, of Baxter Avenue, and two 17-year-old boys from Southend, have been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a weapon or bladed article.

 One of those boys also has been charged with assault, relating to another incident of violence in the city over the weekend, in Southchurch Road.  

 All three appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday October 9. A 22-year-old man from Southend has been released on bail until January 2025.

 A police spokesman said: “Although these significant charges have been confirmed, our team of investigators are continuing to investigation the offence and the circumstances around it.”

 Chief Inspector Dave Browning, Southend district commander, added: “This is clearly a significant step forward in this investigation, and an example of us doing exactly what I’ve previously said we’re determined to do – to identify people we believe to be involved in violence in our city and put them before the courts.

 “I am, however, acutely aware that the concerns around incidents such as this will not automatically cease at this stage.

 “On the one hand, we have an investigation which has progressed incredibly quickly, and I do hope that provides reassurance to our communities, but I also know visible policing is high on our community’s agenda and that is why I’ve launched a sustained policing operation in the city with the aim of stamping out incidents of serious violence.

 “I repeat that we are targeting our resources at the criminal few, whose actions are impacting on the lives of our overwhelming law-abiding public.”

 A police spokesman added: “We continue to appeal to any witnesses to the incident in Leigh to please come forward. Specifically, we’d like to hear from people who were in the Rayleigh Road area between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday October 5.”

 Anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to the incident in Leigh should get in contact with police as soon as possible, quoting incident 801 of 5 October.
