Westcliff Maths Success

WESTCLIFF High School for Boys (WHSB) celebrated outstanding achievements in sixth form “senior maths challenge”.

 The challenge is an international competition designed to encourage students’ logical thinking through problem solving questions. 150 students from WHSB completed the challenge, achieving an impressive 21 Gold Certificates, 45 Silver, and 57 Bronze.

 The Gold Certificate level represents those students in the top twelfth of all competitors internationally, and it is all the more impressive that 9 of the 21 Gold Certificates awarded to WHSB students, were to those in the Lower Sixth.

 A spokesperson for the WHSB said: “We are proud of all our Sixth Form students who competed in the Senior Maths Challenge this year.

 “Congratulations to all our students who participated, and in particular to George (Upper Sixth) who is now through to the Senior Maths Olympiad, and the other Gold Certificate winners who go through to the Senior Kangaroo competition.

 “We would like to thank Miss James and her colleagues in the Mathematics Department for their support to the students in preparing for this Challenge.”
