Rayleigh Lions Donation

A DONATIAN of £2,000 from Rayleigh Lions has helped Edward Francis School fund a new £20,000 sensory room.

The sensory room supports children with varying educational needs. Nina Rowan, School Inclusion Manager at Edward Francis explained: “The sensory room provides a safe and inviting space which can be used by many of our children who have a variety of additional needs.

“The room serves those with Autism, sensory dysregulation, emotional dysregulation, as well as offering a private space to offer counselling to our bereaved children who have lost parents. It will also be a space where the physiotherapists and occupational therapists can support our children who are wheelchair users or who have limited mobility.”

Since starting in 1974, Rayleigh Lions has raised and donated over £1 million to good causes in the Rayleigh, Hockley, Hullbridge and Rochford areas.

Some big donations by Rayleigh Lions since 2015 include – £15K towards new Hockley Day Centre mini bus: £10K towards new prostate cancer treatment trial at Southend Hospital (joint project with other Lions clubs): £8K for Breakout Area at Fitzwimarc School: £5K for Southend Hospital Radiotherapy equipment appeal: £5K towards two classrooms for hearing impaired pupils at Sweyne Park School: £5K towards Hockley Day Centre kitchen: £4K for Sunday Club: £3K towards new scanner at Southend Hospital: £3K for one mission of Essex Air Ambulance: £3K for Jack’s sensory log cabin: £1K for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
