Memorial Hall Service - A SERVICE was held at Leigh’s War Memorial in Eastwood to honour Remembrance Day.

A SERVICE was held at Leigh’s War Memorial in Eastwood to honour Remembrance Day.

This year, the service was attended by the Leigh and Southend West MP David Burton-Sampson, the Mayor Coun Woodley and councillors of the area.

Wreaths were laid by them and Leigh Lions.

Stephen Aylen of Belfairs Residents Association said: “Every year for the last 103 years there has been a service at Leigh’s War Memorial that happens to be in Eastwood.

“This was because the land was given for free and the people of Eastwood through much effort raised money.

“Originally it was proposed to move the Leigh Memorial, but it was proposed to build a hall that could be used all year round.

“During the war years the hall was an important feeding station and the services were held outside.”
