DAVID Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West & Leigh, is urging primary schools in Southend West and Leigh to make sure they sign up early for the new breakfast clubs, which he says, could save families hundreds of pounds in childcare.
Schools can now apply to become one of the first to offer a new, government-backed free breakfast club.
Breakfast clubs are proven to boost attendance and attainment and provide a valuable source of childcare for parents at the beginning of the day.
The MP said: “I hear from parents in Southend West and Leigh how difficult it is to find flexible childcare and how valuable it is getting help around the school day – these clubs could save local families £400 a year.
“I want as many schools as possible to sign up and help improve our children’s future with the best start to the day for pupils and parents alike.
“Families would then be able to access 30 minutes of quality childcare ahead of the start of the school day as we rollout of free breakfast clubs across the country.”
Investment in breakfast clubs will triple to more than £33 million by 2025-26, through the measures.
