DAVID Burton-Sampson is encouraging anyone who might be eligible for pension credits to sign up, as the deadline is looming.

He said: “If you think you are entitled to Pension Credits you need to apply by December 21st to receive the Winter Fuel Payment.

“I know many of you who are eligible in Southend have not yet applied for this vital benefit, worth around £3,900 a year. It can also entitle you to other benefits like the Winter Fuel Payment or support with Council Tax and Housing Benefit.

“And remember, even if you are just above the threshold for Pension Credit, you may still be eligible for assistance from the Household Support fund, administered by Southend Council.”

The MP for Southend West and Leigh added that if a single person’s income is below £218.15 or a couple’s under £332.95, they should apply and that people might qualify even if they own their own home, have savings or a private pension.
