A FUNDRAISING gig is being held at The Fisherman’s Chapel in Leigh this spring.
Sam Sweeney will be appearing at The Fisherman’s Chapel in a special performance on April 5th to raise money for the return of the popular Folk Festival.
Nominated four times, and winner in 2015, of Musician of The Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Mr Sweeney, described as “the fiddler with the Midas touch” has been at the forefront of the revival in English music for the last fifteen years.
He is a veteran of the Bellowhead, former and inaugural Artistic Director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble, a founder member of ground-breaking trio Leveret as well as a passionate and experienced educator.
He has collaborated, recorded and performed with The Full English, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings, Fay Hield and Emily Portman as well as creating his own theatre production Made in The Great War.
A spokesperson for Leigh Folk Arts explains: “We’re hosting a special fundraising event featuring an incredible act, Sam Sweeney, on 5th April 2025.
