MP’s Royal Meeting

IT was a proud moment for David Burton-Sampson when he met His Majesty the King at Buckingham Palace.

The MP for Southend West and Leigh was invited to join other dignitaries and MPs for a special reception at the palace, where he enjoyed speaking with both the King and the Queen.

He said: “It was an absolute honour and a privilege to meet the Royal couple. I was fortunate enough to speak to the King for some time.

“He was aware of my constituency and of course, bestowed city status on Southend in 2022 when he presented the document to make us England’s 52nd city.

“Queen Camilla was extremely warm and I praised her charity work, much of which improves the lives of people living in Southend.”

The event was primarily for newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) and members of the House of Lords and included notable attendees such as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch and former Prime Minister, Theresa May.

Mr Burton-Sampson said:” It was an extremely proud moment to meet the King and Queen. It was not something that I had expected and I am delighted to have attended their reception and spoken with them both face to face.

“I had never been to Buckingham Palace before and now it’s a visit I shall never forget.”
