Wood’s Path Resurfacing - ROCHFORD Council have announced resurfacing works to an important woodland area.

ROCHFORD Council have announced resurfacing works to an important woodland area.
Resurfacing is underway in Hockley Woods until 14th March, with works intended to smooth the surface of the main track in Hockley Woods, whilst providing maintenance to the well-used trackway.

Covering over 130 hectares, Hockley Woods are the largest remaining area of the wild wood, which covered Essex after the Ice Age 10,000 years ago.

The new work will remove bumps and sharp surfaces from the track by the levelling and compacting of granite, with a final layer of granite dust completing the surface.

The area is regularly used for events such as Hockley Woods Park Run, as well as being a meeting place for other community groups.

A spokesperson for the council commented on the current resurfacing work: “During this time, 1km of the main track will be resurfaced, which may cause some disruption for those using the woods.

“Please also note that car park capacity will be reduced while the works are carried out.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these essential improvements take place!”

Non-aligned councillor for Hawkwell West Julie Gooding commented: “The benefits that the maintenance works bring are massive.

“The woods are always busy, and people gain so much enjoyment form being there in the peaceful surrounding.”
