RAYLEIGH and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has thanked the Nationwide Building Society for their promise not to close any of their High Street branches until 2028, at the earliest.

Mr Francois showed his support in person for this welcome policy, when he visited Nationwide’s busy branch, on Wickford High Street. Mr Francois met with staff at the branch, who reported a number of new customers, following the announcement by Halifax (part of the Lloyd’s Banking Group) to close their Wickford Branch, in a few weeks’ time.

Commenting on his visit, Mr Francois said: “I regret the decision to close the Halifax in Wickford – so I wanted to make a point of thanking Halifax for staying open and indeed promising to do so for years ahead.

“Having visited the branch, to thank the staff, I learnt that many Halifax customers, who still value being able to go into a branch in person, are switching their accounts over to Nationwide instead – and I now better understand why”
