RAYLEIGH Horticultural Society held a successful show at the town’s Mill Arts & Events Centre.
With both a record number of entries and a record number of visitors to enjoy the colourful displays, the event provided an opportunity for members of the society to demonstrate their talents across a number of different areas.
In the Floral Art category, Margaret Lewis’ work entitled ‘Easter Delight’ won a certificate and a £20 voucher to spend in the Society’s Trading Store.
The best entry in all Horticultural Classes was a vase of five perfect daffodils entered by Nicola Calder, and a voucher for £25 in the Best Houseplant Category was won by Jane Boore for her ‘Monkey’s Paw’ plant.
Winner in the New Competitor classes was Ros Marsh with a pot of daffodils and Carole Noble won best Handicraft entry with a beautiful blanket.
Lucy Stone’s coffee and walnut cake was judged best, earning her a £10 voucher.
There were stalls by the local WI, Essex Air Ambulance and a local nursery brought along a large range of plants for sale.
These were in addition to a big selection of bulbs, tools and general gardening requirements from the Society’s Trading Store in Daw’s Heath Road.
Membership of this local society is just £8 per year per family allowing members to purchase gardening requirements at very competitive prices.
