The popular Folk Festival is set to take place for the 32nd time, and is the only free folk festival in the country.

However, this year, the organisers are facing a critical funding gap of £4,000, after some of their corporate sponsors and partners had to step back from providing their support.

A spokesperson said: “Leigh Folk Festival is facing a funding gap and the increasing costs of putting on the festival. So, we are asking if you can donate to support your community event.”

Leigh Folk Festival is fuelled by the support of volunteers, community and sponsors, but is facing significant threats to its continuation, due to increased running costs.

The team behind the festival said: “We don’t want to see this cherished event fade. We need your help to ensure that Leigh Folk Festival continues to bring music, joy, and togetherness to our city in 2025.

“Your support doesn’t just sustain a festival—it keeps music thriving, supports local artists and businesses, and strengthens the heartbeat and mental health of our community.

“Every donation counts. Every act of generosity keeps the festival free for everyone to enjoy.”

The organisers are calling on residents to reflect on the importance of the Folk Festival to them, and to ask if they can help at this crucial moment with any donation, however large or small: “If Leigh Folk Festival has ever given you unforgettable memories, now’s the time to give back.

“Whether you can give £50, £10, or any amount that feels right to you, your contribution will go directly toward keeping the festival alive.

“If you select the Gift Aid option, we can claim an additional 25%, making your donation go even further. And if you can commit to a regular monthly donation, you’ll be making an incredible, lasting impact – and help the show go on.”
