MARK Francois, the Shadow Armed Forces Minister and MP for Rayleigh & Wickford, paid his respects to the fallen at the National Service of Commemoration for VE Day, held at Westminster Abbey.
Mr Francois, whose father, Reginald Francois, served onboard a minesweeper, on D-Day, was one of a number of MPs who attended the special service, to remember the nation’s struggle – and ultimate victory – over Nazi Germany, which was announced 80 years ago.
Speaking about the service, Mr Francois said: “I was honoured to represent my constituents at the National Service of Commemoration for VE Day, today.
“As my father fought in WWII, I am particularly conscious of the sacrifices that were made, to keep Britain free and then to help liberate Western Europe, from tyranny. We owe that generation an immense debt, which is why today’s service at the Abbey was so fitting.”
