A LEIGH-based Abba tribute band is celebrating its 20th Korean tour with a disability awareness day.

The Abbagirls Band, who have performed nearly 5000 gigs in 42 countries around the world, including Las Vegas, and London’s O2, were voted by the Official Abba Fan club as the best and most Authentic Abba tribute band.

This April sees them head out on six-date tour dedicated to the Korean Day of the disabled, held on April 20, and Earth day on April 22.

Colin Cross, who leads the band, explained why the Korean Day of the disabled was important for the band to honour. He said: “The day means a lot to us, because my son lost a leg five years ago in a road accident.”

The environment and preserving the earth is also a cause close to the Abbagirls Band heart’s, and they will make special mention of it in their press conference.

Mr Cross said: “The theme for our six gigs will be all about the environment, keeping a much greener world, and helping and living with disabilities.

“Some of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Green Foundation and the Disabled First Movement Headquarters.”

The trip also features a special appearance live on Arirang TV, an English-speaking Korean channel.

They will sing two songs followed by an hour-long show of interviews, quizzes and laughter, before playing on April 20 to a sell-out arena holding an audience of 7,500.

The tour will end in Jeju Island, in between Korea and Japan, known as the Hawaii of Asia, before the band returns to Leigh on April 25.
