The sky is the limit for Abbi Ranger, a Nursing Assistant for Fair Havens Hospice at Home, who will be standing on the wing of a plane travelling 100 MPH, to support the families she cares for in the community.

Ms Ranger was inspired to work for the charity after the care her grandad received care from the Hospice at Home team at the end of his life.

The hospice granted Barry, Ms Ranger’s Grandad, his last wish, which was to live his last days in the comfort of his own home overlooking the River Crouch in Hullbridge.

She said: “The care my grandad received towards the end of his life was exceptional.

“Because of Havens Hospices, Grandad was able to live his last days in the comfort of the home he loved. The Care Team made sure that happened for him, making him as comfortable as possible, surrounded by the love of his family.

“Now I work for the hospice, I am able to bring comfort to other families who have been told there is no cure for their loved one’s illness and help them make the most of the special time they have left together.”

Ms Ranger will join other ‘wing walkers’ on April 8 in Upminster for the challenge, and hopes to raise £600 in sponsorship.

Susie May, Fundraising Officer at Havens Hospices said: “We are really looking forward to another Wing Walk challenge.

“We must raise over £85,000 a week to be there for every family who needs us during the most difficult time in their lives.”

She explained that there was a chance for other fundraisers to take part in a similar event: “We still have places remaining for our next Wing Walk in August, perfect for thrill seekers looking for an experience of a lifetime.”

There is also a skydive fundraiser taking place on September 9.
