“Amazing” Youth Carers

A SENIOR councillor has praised a group of “amazing” young careers when paying them a visit.

Stu Belton, vice chairman for Rayleigh Town Council, called in at the “Supporting Carers and Families Together” (SCAFT) group to present them with a certificate, following a grant awarded to the service.

Coun Belton said: “I was lucky enough to enjoy a truly heart-warming and humbling visit to the group.

“I saw first-hand the amazing work they do for the incredible children who act as carers for family members. “

A spokesperson for Supporting Carers & Families Together said: “A huge Thank You to Councillor Stu Belton for visiting one of our young carers’ groups last night and taking so much time to chat to service users, staff and volunteers.

“In his role as Vice-Chair of Rayleigh Town Council he presented a certificate recognising the very welcome grant from the council towards keeping these important services going.  “Having helped their families through the challenges of the Pandemic, these amazing young people now find themselves battling against the additional test of the cost-of-living crisis and need all the support we can give.

“Not only are significantly more families coming forward for support, but also the difficulties they face are becoming more acute.”

SCAFT relies solely on grants and donations.

The voluntary group’s mission is to “To relieve the social, emotional, mental, physical and educational needs of Carers and their families in the county of Essex through the provision of support, person and group centred interventions, advice, guidance and sign posting to other services as appropriate.”
