Around 25 artists will be meeting the crowds and selling their art in the sixth market of its kind since the popular event launched in the Old Town in May 2019.

Photographer, John Pearman said: “Our last market at the end of August was a huge success, with crowds of people browsing the stalls in perfect summer weather.

“The event has gone from strength to strength and it’s wonderful to see people take it to their hearts. I can promise another fabulous array of stalls on May Day.”

Mr Pearman believes that seeing art come together is at the heart of the Artists’ Market’s appeal.

“Our vision was always that it would be more than somewhere to buy fantastic art,” he said.

“Who hasn’t peered over the shoulder of a painter at a beauty spot to see what they’ve captured? Art makes us inquisitive and engagement with the artists is what we’re all about. If that sounds like your kind of thing, come and meet our brilliant line-up on Bank Holiday Monday.”

Among those who will be appearing at the Strand Wharf event for the first time are potter Lola Swain, plein-air artist Sharon Henson, and portraitist Victoria Sills.

Also included is Grace Edkins, who produces woodcuts and linocuts of the local flora and fauna.

Mr Pearman added: “One of the reasons people love living in and visiting Leigh is the sense that this is an artistic community and taking art outside is an important part of that. This is another chance to show people the very best of our town.”

The Old Leigh Artists’ Market will be at Strand Wharf this Bank Holiday Monday, May 1, from 10am to 4pm.
