LEIGH’S Strand Wharf was ablaze with colour and sunshine as crowds flocked to the Old Leigh Artists’ Market.
Sun shone on as attendees watched live demonstrations in various media, whilst browsing the work available for purchase.
The market, which has originally been planned for May 4, was postponed until May 25 following. Gloomy forecast.
Sun shone on the rescheduled craft event, which afforded people the opportunity to get up close and personal with mosaic, painting, photography, and sculpture.
Marking the eighth of its kind, the first Old Leigh Artists’ Market was launched in 2019, and has run every May and August bank holiday, excluding a pause during the pandemic.
Organiser John Pearman said: “It was the perfect day for it and people were pouring on to Strand Wharf from the moment we began setting up.
“It is wonderful to give people the chance to chat to the artists as they work. Strengthening the connection between artists and art-lovers is what we are all about.”
Nicola Osborne was one of the exhibiting stallholder artists. She said: “Thank you to Old Leigh Artists’ Market for hosting such a fabulous event.
“The weather had the memo this time, thank heavens.
“It was great to meet lots of new people, including artists. I had so many lovely compliments and one very special customer. Her grandfather bought her a painting she had admired, as a surprise. What a lovely thing to do.
“She came to tell me about this and her delight just filled my heart.”
Mr Pearman concluded: “Our vision is always that it would be more than somewhere to buy fantastic art.
“We wanted people to watch paintings, sculptures and pottery being produced.
“Our thanks to everybody who made the event so friendly, happy and fabulous from start to finish.”
Mr Pearman is now making plans for the next Artists’ Market at the end of August.
Ms Osborne added: “Looking forward to August bank holiday already!”
