A MUCH-ADMIRED Minister from Ashingdon who has served the community for over four decades stood down from his role this October.
Revd. David Redbond has entered retirement after being the minister of Estuary Elim Church in Ashington Road for 43 years.
A large community celebration was held in East Hawkwell and Ashingdon Memorial Hall attended by over 170 parishioners and well-wishers, from years gone by right up until the present.
Attendees enjoyed tributes, music and a presentation from guest speaker Rev David Campbell, as people gathered to reflect on the success of his many years serving the locale.
Church Administrator Andrea James explained: “Revd. Redbond is a people person and could relate to everyone, old and young, no matter where they came from.
“Generations of people have passed through our church that still keep in touch with him, and many of those attended our celebration.”
Revd Redbond has been very instrumental in the community, making regular visit to Coachman’s Court in Rochford to take services, whilst his wife Maureen would play music for them.
Over the years his involvement in the Local Churches Together initiative was generative, and his participation and support of local events such as the old Rochford carnival, and his regular taking of the Remembrance Service in Ashingdon Memorial Hall were always much-anticipated events.
A local man himself, his father was a fishmonger in Hockley, and Revd. Redbond also had a period working in the insurance industry. Before taking up his role at Elim, he was a minster serving at Elim Pentecost Church in Rayleigh.
Mrs James added: “David was looked upon as a father figure to many people, and his presence in the church will be very missed.”
