A COMMUNITY-based caner rehab group celebrated one of their fundraising stars this November.
Ondie Woods, a Cancer Rehab Exercise Specialist and the mastermind behind the Beat It Cancer Rehab group held weekly at Leigh Community Centre, organised the tribute day to present Gary Lockett with a special plaque and goodies following his phenomenal efforts.
Ms Woods said: “We gathered to show our appreciation to Gary for raising over £4000 for the Beat It Cancer Rehab of Leigh, which has now bn established for 10 years.”
Mr Lockett, now the proud owner of Southend United Football Club, had made headlines for his recent cross-country cycling expedition of most 4000 miles.
The challenge was all for the noble cause of supporting local charities, including the Beat It, and what made this feat even more astonishing was the fact that just months prior, Mr Lockett had faced a life-altering accident, which left him with five metal plates in his face.
This meant that the event was not just celebrating a remarkable achievement in fundraising, but the indomitable spirit Mr Lockett showed in completing his challenge.
Ms Woods added: “We are immensely proud of him, as he has been a PT client of mine for nearly 20 years.”
Ms Woods’ Cancer Rehab Club continues to thrive, and welcomes, every Thursday, between 11.30am – 12.30 pm, those who seek healing, support, and the spirit to beat it, “because you can.”
