A WESTCLIFF-based blind activist has just published a new book, charting nearly six decades as a devoted campaigner.
Jill Allen-King OBE, who won the lifetime achievement award at last year’s Pride of Britain Awards, lost her sigh due to glaucoma on her wedding day in 1964.
She published her first book, Just Jill, in 2010, and her second book, Jill’s Leading Ladies, recounting tales of her Guide Dogs, in 2012.
The latest book, published by Apex, is called Jill’s Walks of Life, and recounts her tireless campaigning for others with sight loss, using her own experience as a blind person to help others, as well as developing innovative ideas.
The 83-year-old has helped usher in a variety of improvements across Southend Borough, including getting tactile pavements at road crossings, as well as campaigning for lifts at Chalkwell Station.
