A HADLEIGH woman is set to shave her head in solidarity with her father, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Grace De’Ath, 29, is “braving the shave” in November to raise £10,000 for Blood Cancer UK. Brian De’Ath, 66, had been battling skin cancer for a few years, but the family recently received the tragic news that he has Stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma – a rare type of b-cell non-Hodgkin’s MCL.
MCL is a cancer of the Lymphatic system, which has tubes branched out all over the body. It is a rare disease and effect 1 in 200,00 people.
Ms De’Ath said: “This is currently considered incurable.
“My dad has undergone stem cell removal and treatment in Barts London. It’s worked for the time being, and we are all so proud of him and how he has chosen to fight.
“At one point he couldn’t keep the hair on his head or even eyebrows, so that’s why I’m choosing to give my luscious locks to charity.”
She continued; “I’m hoping to raise £10,000 in aid of Blood Cancer UK by shaving my hair off in November.
“I’ve chosen this date due to my dad having to struggle being bald in the colder months also, doing this in the summer feels too easy.”
A GoFundMe has already been set up and has so far raised more than £3,610.
Ms De’Ath added: “Just £2 could change someone’s life forever, that’s cheaper than a bottle of fizzy pop
“It is so important to raise this money to all my family. We only get one life, and I am going to fight my hardest to make a difference.”
