A LOCAL wine bar is planning to expand its business by opening a sister venue, after its combination of laid-back interiors and high-quality offering have taken Chalkwell by storm.

The Cork Dork, on Chalkwell’s Ridgeway, owned by husband-and-wife team Benedict and Danielle Hurley, offer a wide range of wines on its regularly-updated list, alongside charcuterie and cheese boards, in addition to hosting regular charity quiz nights and special events.

They plan now to take their unique blend of chic yet comfortable décor and a high-quality wine further afield.

Mr Hurley, 44, told Leigh News: “After the huge success of Chalkwell Cork Dork we have been looking at a few potential areas to open a sister site.”

One site the couple have their sights set on is the former H. Witham and Sons funeral directors’ premises on Rayleigh High Street.

Mr Hurley explained: “We considered Thorpe Bay, but settled on Rayleigh.

“It’s a beautiful town, but it’s missing a good wine offer.”

Mrs Hurley, 36, added that through the bushiness’ approachable atmosphere and focus on quality drink, they have successfully found a “gap in the market” which will benefit the market town of Rayleigh as much as it has Leigh.

She said: “Due to our relaxed and unpretentious home away from home feel, people feel extremely welcome, and we feel able to venture into a new town.”

Mr Hurley added that at the new site, they intend to extend their menu to include lunch, which is a first for the business.

“We will open for lunch for the first time in Rayleigh,” he added.

At its current site, The Cork Dork has become well known for supporting various charitable causes with a series of hosted quizzes, each dedicated to a different charity.

So far, they have raised over £500 for both Southend Hospital’s Roding Ward and Leigh Library Gardens.
