Business Rate Cuts

IT is good news for Southend’s pubs and clubs that business rates are going to be cut, says David Burton-Sampson after hearing from local businesses calling for the change.
He said:” I have met with representatives of the industry, most recently at the newly refurbished Blue Eagle pub near Roots Hall and discussed business rates.
“This cut is just what they were looking for so I am delighted this has happened.”
The MP for Southend West and Leigh said he is delighted to hear the government’s plans to give music venues, clubs and pubs a 20% business rate cut from April.
Explaining that a typical pub will save an estimated £1,100 in the next financial year, helping them to invest and create jobs.
The scheme will be funded partly by reviewing reliefs for businesses considered to make less of a positive contribution to communities, such as vape shops. The Government will also crack down on business online to ensure they do not have an unfair tax advantage.
Mr Buton-Sampson said: “This city is a lively and vibrant place with a great night- time economy and a huge pedigree of popular music night spots.
“It is vital that these venues get the support they need and this will be a big help. We all enjoy seeing a band at close quarters in a pub or club and we must ensure the next generation can do so too”
