Caledonian Club Speech – RAYLEIGH and Wickford’s MP,  Mark Francois, spoke about his service to the late Queen, Elizabeth II, when he addressed members of the Caledonian Club at a recent lunch in London.

RAYLEIGH and Wickford’s MP,  Mark Francois, spoke about his service to the late Queen, Elizabeth II, when he addressed members of the Caledonian Club at a recent lunch in London.

The club, which is located in Belgravia, provides a “home from home” for Scots living in London and the South East.

Mr Francois had been invited to address Club members about his previous role as the Vice Chamberlain of Her Majesty’s Household (the late Queen’s messenger to Parliament).

Mr Francois was invited to address members of the Club by long-time Rayleigh resident, Hilton Brown, who also serves as President of Mr Francois’ local Conservative Association.

Mr Francois’ address concentrated on his twenty-two years as an MP in the House of Commons, including his previous role as Vice Chamberlain of Her Majesty’s Household (the late Queen Elizabeth’s messenger to Parliament). As part of this role Mr Francois was “held hostage” twice at Buckingham Palace during the State Opening of Parliament – a tradition which runs back hundreds of years.

Speaking about his speech at the Caledonian Club, Mr Francois said: “As an Essex MP, it was a pleasure to address a group of Scotsmen about the Union of the United Kingdom and my service to our late Queen Elizabeth.

“It was a privilege working for her late Majesty and I hope the members of Club enjoyed hearing about some of it.”
