Care Home Transformation

A FORMER care home in Westcliff is slated for a transformation into a ‘boutique hotel’ following the approval of planning permission.

The former Sandringham Care Home, located on Westcliff Avenue, is set to undergo a conversion into 13 individual apartments.

Previously, this facility provided care for up to 20 elderly residents, including those with dementia, until its closure in early 2022.

Now, TWL Property Developments Ltd, the applicant for this project, aims to repurpose the building to offer a ‘hotel-style’ experience.

Notably, each apartment will be fully self-contained, complete with kitchen, dining, and laundry facilities.

Bosses for the firm stated: “The proposed use will be reinstating the original nature of the building.

“The proposal for service accommodation is similar to a hotel, but the two key differences are that serviced accommodation is fully self-contained with kitchen and dining and clothes washing facilities, rather than a traditional hotel, which would have a separate kitchen and dining room area.

“Service accommodation units can be let out for longer periods for individuals working in the area such as contractors, hospital, and airport workers, rather than a traditional hotel which is predominately for holiday makers.”
