Many streets were decorated with Royal themed bunting, flags and balloons. Roads were officially closed off and tables were lined up and filled with party food shared by cheerful neighbours.

While rain may have fallen on the day of the coronation itself, local revellers were spared a soaking and enjoyed mostly perfect temperatures and bright sunshine.

Among those pushing the boat out to celebrate the new king’s big day were the residents of Hambro Gardens in Leigh, who also held a ‘Royal’ cake making competition.
