A RESCUE helicopter was launched and lifeboat volunteers were called into action after a group of people were seen “cut off by the tide” at Chalkwell Beach.
Southend’s RNLI were tasked by the Coastguard to help people seen off Chalkwell on Saturday, January 25th, following an alert made by a member of ther public.
Launching the charity’s inshore lifeboat at 5.26pm, the RNLI crew proceeded to the reported location and carried out a thorough search of the surrounding area.
Aiding in the mission were Coastguard rescue helicopter 163, HM Coastguard Southend rescue teams and National Coastwatch Institution volunteers on Canvey.
The search covered all areas Westcliff to Two Tree Island and Canvey Point, with the Dover Coastguard authorising the lifeboat crew to use white flares.
All agencies were stood down after the Coastguard was satisfied a complete and thorough search was carried out.
The incident was later recorded as a “false alarm with good intent” by the Coastguard.
