A MAN has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a fatal attack in Westcliff.
Police were called to Hamlet Court Road Car Park shortly before 6pmĀ on Thursday July 18th following reports that two people had been seriously assaulted.
Sadly, one man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are believed to be life-changing but not life-threatening.
A large police and emergency services presence was witnessed in and around the car park on Hamlet Court Road.
Road closures were in place, and officers and forensic teams remained at the scene, with a police cordon in place into the evening.
Community Policing officers continued to carry out patrols in the area over the following days.
Barry Mooney, of Crowstone Road, Westcliff, was arrested on suspicion of murder and has now been charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed or pointed article.
Mooney, 55, appeared at Chelmsford Magistratesā Court on July 20.
The cordon at Hamlet Court Road has since been lifted with Superintendent Leigh Norris, from Essex Police,Ā said: āDespite the investigation being in the early stages, weāre confident that this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
āPlease speak with our officers about any concerns you may have.”
Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault, including those driving down London Road, to contact Police with any information.
