A LOCAL hospice charity is partnering with a Southend-based foundation offering free heart screening for its younger runners fundraising for the charity.
The Carli Lansley Foundation will be offering ECG heart screening for eligible Havens Hospices’ ‘Team Havens’ runners who raise vital funds for the charity, participating in the London Marathon and Southend Half Marathon 2025.
The Carli Lansley Foundation was established by Karl Lansley from Leigh, in memory of his wife Carli, who suddenly died at the age of 36 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).
The foundation provides free ECG heart screenings to people between the ages of 14-35 in the Southend area to detect undiagnosed heart problems. The foundation also provides CPR training.
Since 2018, the foundation has raised more than £250,000 in Carli’s name to provide this service in the community.
Welcoming the partnership, Mr Lansley said: “The Carli Lansley Foundation are extremely honoured to be able to partner with Havens Hospices to raise awareness of our free screening programme available to anyone aged 14-35 in the Southend area.
“Our Foundation has established a running group – affectionately known as ‘Team Carli’ – and we now have over 100 individuals completing various running events throughout the year to raise awareness and donations for us.
“As a Southend-based charity, the Southend Half Marathon held every year by Havens Hospices is our ‘flagship event’ and in 2024, we had over 60 runners taking part wearing our charity top.
“At this year’s event, we’ll be very proud to be able to play an even bigger part and have the opportunity to raise awareness of our free screening to more young people in the community, including ‘Team Havens’ runners and supporters of Havens Hospices.”
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support to people of all ages living with incurable conditions. As a charity, they must raise more than £207,000 a week to be there for everyone who needs them.
Its care and support can be provided in the comfort of patients’ homes or at their two hospices, Fair Havens for adults and Little Havens, the children’s hospice for Essex. Its specialist care is only possible thanks to the kindness and generosity of the community, and people participating in events like the Southend Half Marathon and London Marathon.
Judy Grocott, Head of Fundraising at Havens Hospices, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to partner with ‘Team Carli’ to offer free screenings to ‘Team Havens’ runners.
“We are in awe of the work they do in their local community, and we’re delighted to team up with another local cause to raise awareness of our vital services, which make such a difference to the lives of local people.”
Screening dates will be taking place on Wednesday 9th April and Thursday 10th April at the Saxon Hall, Aviation Way, Southend and on Wednesday 28th May, then Thursday 29th May at USP College, Thundersley.
To be eligible for a free screening you must be registered as a ‘Team Havens’ London Marathon participant or as participating in the Southend Half Marathon 2025 and be up to the age of 35 (you can be screened up until your 36th birthday).
Please note that the screening is offered on a first-come, first-served basis with limited priority spaces available, so it’s important to register as soon as possible to secure your spot.
You will need to register with the Carli Lansley Foundation directly by emailing [email protected] quoting ‘Team Havens’.
