A BUSINESS held a football tournament to help raise funds for HARP, Southend’s leading homelessness charity.

AJ Chambers, a Rochford-based recruitment agency for accountancy and legal professionals, held a 7-a-side tournament between 32 local businesses at the iconic Southend United Football Ground, Roots Hall, in the third edition of the annual World Cup-on-Sea.

With help from supporters, World Cup-on-Sea 2023 aimed to raise £40,000 through ticket sales, sponsorship, and charitable donations for HARP, who HARP help around 1,000 people every year who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness in Southend.

Stephen Mansfield, Director of Fundraising & Communications at HARP, said: “The event would not be possible without the amazing vision and passion of AJ Chambers, who created the event alongside HARP to help us raise vital funds for local people forced into homelessness.

“The event looks set to smash last year’s fundraised amount, and we are so impressed by the fundraising efforts of the 32 local businesses who will be represented out on the pitch on May 20.”

Andy Hilliard, Managing Director of AJ Chambers said: “Amazingly, it’s been 5 years since we began to develop this concept.

“All of this is only possible through the amazing project team from HARP and AJ Chambers, the support of SUFC and our sponsors.”
