EACH month going forward District Commander Chief Inspector Jo Collins will update you with local police news, crime prevention advice and events happening in your area.
District Commander Chief Inspector Jo Collins took over leading the Southend district in the latter part of 2022 she said she was “thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead such a busy and diverse team.”
“Many of the officers who work in Southend were born and grew up here. They’re proud to help keep the city safe. We’re lucky to have such strong relationships with the council, local businesses, community groups and charities, but I want to build on those and support the wider community to make sure everyone who lives here or visits the Southend district feels safe.”
Our Community Policing Team work closely with Southend Council Community Safety Officers (CSO’s) and other partners to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in Leigh and Westcliff.
Over the last twelve months we have seen a reduction in antisocial behaviour (ASB ) of 35% across the district, this is a great result and we continue to work to reduce this further.
To report ASB happening in your area you can go online via the Essex Police website and use our ‘Livechat’ facility or in an emergency call 999. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
Operation Union is continuing throughout the summer months in waterfront areas including Old Leigh with an increased police presence to keep people visiting the area safe. If you see our officers and PCSO’s on patrol, please say hello, they are happy to stop and chat and answer any questions that you have.
Chalkwell Fair made its annual visit to Chalkwell Park this month, there was an increased police presence around the fair with officers and PCSO’s working alongside the organisers and security and this year saw a reduction in incidents reported. There was lots of engagement with people attending the fair both old and young and a lot of fun was had.
A 52 year old man from Leigh was arrested on August 1 after a series of incidents were reported in the area of Blenheim Crescent and London Road, Leigh. The man was questioned and charged with Possession of an Offensive Weapon, Criminal Damage x 2 and Public Order Offences.
He was remanded to appear before Southend Magistrates Court on August 3 and was remanded in Custody by the Court until his next Court appearance on September 1 at Southend Magistrates Court.
