HELLO Leigh On Sea News Readers.
Another month has drawn to a close and it’s time for another update.
Following on from the serious incidents in Southend mentioned in last month’s column we have launched an operation which is targeting gang activity and serious violence in Southend.
This has so far led to nine arrests for offences including Possession with Intent to Supply, Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Breach of Criminal Behaviour Order. Two successful warrants have also been executed, three house searches completed, multiple breaches of Community Protection Warnings and Notices dealt with and many stop searches.
We’re committed to a sustained and significant operation in Southend to stamp out incidents of serious violence and to identify those involved in activities, which are unfortunately inextricably linked to serious violence.
During this month some celebrated Halloween, which saw a busy evening for both our Community Policing and Local Policing Teams, who worked together to our district safe. All incidents were responded to and dealt with accordingly with the vast majority of people out enjoying the evening responsibly.
Our Officers and staff enjoyed seeing the children and some adults dressed up enjoying the festivities.
In recent weeks we have seen a few Family Gold Thefts occur, follow these simple steps to keep your valuables safe:
- Be secure – lock your doors and windows every time you leave your house or go to bed. For extra security and peace of mind buy CCTV and a burglar alarm, and store high value items in a safe secured to a wall or floor. Alternatively keep high value items in a safe deposit box or a bank.
- Keep an inventory of your jewellery including photos. This can be done in a paper version or online with companies such as immobilise.com. Make sure you include details such as identifying marks, value, and purchase date. List each one of them on your home insurance and be sure they are covered by your policy.
- Be alert to risk when using social media – be mindful not to display or share pictures of expensive jewellery for all to see. Ensure your social media setting are set for private.
- When wearing jewellery in public, particularly during wedding season and religious holidays, consider keeping your jewellery discreetly hidden until you get to the venue and be extra vigilant.
- Criminals sometimes identify targets through personal information – be wary of people asking for these details at work, socially or even over the phone. Also be wary of strangers calling at or hanging around your home.
