A COMMUNITY Group in Westcliff is stepping up its campaign to see Hamlet Court Road bedecked in lights this Christmas.
‘Hamlet Court Calling’, a project initiated by volunteer traders, residents and community groups to work together to help bring about local renewal and regeneration, has set up a fundraiser to see the iconic road festooned with light.
Campaigners hope this initiative will boost trade and bring a dash of extra festive cheer to the community during a key shopping season.
With an initial campaign goal of £6,500, a major donation has seen the group reduce their target down to £3,000.
Now almost a third of the way to their achievable crowd funding target, they are confident in being able to brightening up the road by winding rope lights around 16 lamp posts, from November until early January.
Andy Atkinson, of Hamlet Court Road Calling, said: “A huge thank you to the 27 supporters who have made this possible, but with over 2,000 members in this Hamlet Court Road supporter group, we hope many more of you can also make a donation.
“With a big autumn push we can get the road looking fantastic this coming Christmas.”
The group are urging traders and resident to get involved, and donate a little, to make the dream of covering every lamppost along the length of the street, a reality.
Mr Atkinson added: “Don’t delay – the festive season may seem many months away but the lights have to be ordered this summer.
“If we can raise more than the funds required, we can extend the scheme or, perhaps, add in a Christmas tree.”
