LEIGH Road Baptist Church (LRBC) held an event to explore the powerful connection between faith and creativity.
Faith in Art: An Evening with the Artists held on August 27th drew a diverse crowd of art enthusiasts, community members, and families to showcase over 40 artists’ work, spanning a range of styles and interpretations.
David Elcock, Creative Community Worker at LRBC, said that the event “underscored themes of faith, life, and the universal experiences that bind us all.
“We are immensely grateful to the more than 40 artists who contributed to our inaugural Faith in Art Open Exhibition,” added Andrew Cowley, Minister of LRBC.
“Their incredible creativity ignited meaningful conversations and inspired many to reflect on the profound questions that life presents. It was truly wonderful to witness the works of established artists showcased alongside the vibrant artwork of Darlinghurst Academy school children, creating a beautiful tapestry of artistic expression and community,” he said.
Part of the Open Summer Exhibition 2024, the evening was complemented by newly-released music and the opportunity for visitors to enter the LRBC Sanctuary, where life-size replicas of six renowned Christian artworks were displayed, including Light of the World by Holman Hunt, and Return of the Prodigal by Rembrandt amongst others.
These artworks have been central to LRBC’s Sunday morning talks throughout the summer.
Mr. Elcock added: “Through events like the Faith in Art Open Summer Exhibition, LRBC seeks to create spaces where people can engage with meaningful conversations about life, spirituality, and the arts.”
