A CHURCH in Westcliff is preparing to celebrate a special weekend of commemoration this June.
Kings Road United Reformed Church is set to celebrate 100 years of worshipping in its sanctuary with a weekend of special events from June 12 to 14, 2026.
The church’s origins date back to 1905, when members of Cliff Town Congregational Church sought to serve the growing Westcliff and Chalkwell suburbs.
A site at Kings Road and Crowstone Road was purchased, with an initial lecture hall officially opening on November 29, 1910.
The main church building, designed to accommodate an expanding congregation, was later opened in 1926 alongside the original hall.
The celebrations will include a Thanksgiving Service, community events and the burial of a time capsule by the Mayor of Southend.
Organisers say the milestone is expected to be of particular interest to local residents and families with longstanding connections to the church.
The church is located at 91 Crowstone Road, Westcliff, and all are welcome to attend the celebrations.
